The miss Universe event is an international beauty peagent in which beauty queens from various countries compete for the crown to eventually become the Miss Universe.
The event is usually glamorous and involves activities like photo shoots,
costuming and intellectual challenges. The most beautiful girl in terms of physical appearance is not neccesarily choosen to wear the crown as other factors are usually considered.
The 2010 edition of Miss universe was won by Ximena Navarette from Mexico.
The 2011 miss universe is the 6oth edition and will take place in Sau Paulo, Brazil on the 12th of september with over 62 contestants competing for the international beauty crown.
Miss Nigeria is Sophie Gemal the fomer Miss Bayelsa who is going in the steps of the Nigerian beauty queen Agbani Darego who won the Miss World beauty peagent in 2001 and a whole of other NIgerian models.
Other notable contestants include: Miss America-Alyssa Campanella, Miss Russia -Natalia Gantimurova, Miss India - Vasuki Sunkavalli and African contenders like Miss South Africa, Miss Angola, Miss Botswana, Miss Ghana and Miss Tanzania.
