Two years after the death of pop king Michael Jackson, his doctor Conrad Murray has been convivted for involuntary manslaughter after the judge and jury pronounced him guilty for administering a powerful surgical anesthetic propofol in response to Jackson's complaints about insomnia during his preparation for the New world tour in 2009.
The doctor had abandoned his practice to work exclusively for Jackson for $150,000 (£93,000) per month and had been said to administer the lethal drug on the morning of Michael Jackson's death without supervision even though Jackson had administered the final dose on himself before giving up the ghost.
The trial of Michael Jackson's doctor was a high profile case which had
fans chanting "Justice for Michael!" and "Find Conrad Murray Guilty! just outside the court room.
The guilty verdict brought some jubilation among fans and the Jackson family who later climbed into limousines and left the scene without addressing fans. La Toya Jackson, Michael's sister, stopped and waved. She later tweeted: "VICTORY!!!!!!" And: "Thank you EVERYONE for your love and support." The singer's mother, Katherine, told a reporter: "I feel better now."
Murray's lead lawyer, Ed Chernoff, asked in his summing up."If it were anybody else but Michael Jackson, would this doctor be here today?" The doctor's lawyers have said they will appeal after the sentencing and are confident the doctor will not be going to jail.
